Today is the celebration of our nation’s birthday, so Happy Birthday, America! Over at Write Chix, Sharon cooked up a special salute – check it out – then come on back!
I overheard a woman on her cell phone talking to her husband, reminiscing about the hours of traffic they’d braved when the kids were younger so they could see fireworks in person. Another lady was talking about how she’s never owned a dog that didn’t hide under the bed during the fireworks every 4th.
And here on the Double Q, we’ve got another rescued kitten – his name is Yoda for those big ears and feet he’ll be growing into. He’s sweet, energetic, has delightful markings – and he’s sick. Cuddling his warm little body and dashing about to make vet appointments, wrestling his three-wriggling pounds to get the antibiotics administered – well, as usual, never a dull moment! But then, the little bumps give life its rich color.
So, when you’re writing that scene, that novel, that article, remember to “flavor” it well with the nuances of life…those details that give it texture and warmth. Memories of holidays spent with others or alone; nearly-sixty ladies with one too many cats; the smell of rainy days or sun-baked city streets; the struggle it took to get those 100 year-old azaleas wrestled away from the house so you can paint it. Notice it all and capture all that you can!
Hope you find it in your plans to brave that traffic and go see the fireworks in person this year!
Until Sunday, keep writing!
